5 Great Tips For SEO

Aug 26th, 2010No Comments

To get lots of Google love, sometimes you have to think a little outside the box. Anyone can rank number one on Google for an obscure keyword that only 2 people a year search for. This may look impressive for some unscrupulous SEO companies, who will take this “proof” to a client who knows nothing at all about the internet, and actually sell them an SEO package based on it, but in actual fact, with the same amount of work, and some out of the box thinking, they could actually rank for difficult keywords without breaking a sweat.

The key to good SEO is being unique and approaching your marketing with flair and care. And – if you are not interested in making your links, content and website appeal to the general public, then you may as well quit. You should write everything as if someone was going to sit down and review it right after you wrote it.

Here are a few quick tips that should get you the Google love you so richly deserve…

  1. Write a Top 5 or Top 10 list. Google and search engines LOVE lists. You may be able to spot the irony here?
  2. Never be afraid to link away from your site. Google loves it when people link away from their site, and view it as a trustworthy site, and an authority
  3. Make sure your site has a disclaimer, terms of use and privacy policy, as well as a sitemap. SEO starts with these things for every person who wants to abide by best practice
  4. If a blogger sees your site and writes up some of your content, don’t jump on them – ask them if they would like to do a feature on you
  5. Comment on lots of relevant topics, and link to your website. Be very careful with this method and only write respectful and well written content.
